Our Story

The Anicinabe Mikana Centre is the culmination of years of dreaming, planning, and building by the community of Kebaowek. Through this centre, we will revitalize and reconnect with our language, culture, and traditions—and bring them to life for our members and visitors.

1990s

Dreaming

Kebaowek community elders envision and begin to dream of a centre where the community and their guests might connect with Algonquin Anicinabe culture and language.

2010s

Prioritizing

Kebaowek council and staff identify a cultural centre as a priority as part of the community’s long-term strategy.

Planning

Kebaowek tourism and business planning includes the development of the Centre in its near-future plans.

Building
